Poised among an abundance of flowers, the peacock in A Quiet Pageant becomes both the centre of the composition and part of its unfolding garden. Its richly patterned plumage descends through clusters of coral, blue and ivory blooms, creating a gentle rhythm of colour, texture and movement.

The work evokes the splendour of a ceremonial procession, yet its mood remains intimate and contemplative. Built through dense, tactile strokes of oil pastel, the bird and flowers appear almost sculpted upon the paper. Nature is presented here not as a fleeting spectacle, but as a quiet celebration—graceful, luminous and complete in its own stillness.
